Katie Branagan is a licensed physical therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience, Katie began practicing yoga to enhance her fitness program in 2005. Her yoga practice quickly ignited a passion that would later become her calling; combining her physical therapy practice with that of therapeutic yoga to enhance the outcome of her patients’ well-being.
As a marathon runner and triathlete with overworked and shortened muscle groups, she was looking to create more balance in her body. As she continued to practice, Katie found that as her body became more balanced and stronger, so did her understanding of the mind-body connection.
Her approach to treating her patients is strongly influenced by her practice of yoga. Katie acknowledges that many of the therapeutic exercises applied in physical therapy are rooted in yoga postures.
Realizing the tremendous number of therapeutic benefits to those who practice, Katie wanted to learn more about the yogic path. Katie studied and received her 200 hour certification through Integrative Yoga Therapy. Now, combining her knowledge of the body from physical therapy education and clinical practice, with her continual study of yoga, she teaches others how they can benefit from practice.
Katie is passionate about sharing yoga with students with mobility disorders due to injury or disease. Katie has also attended Adaptive Yoga Level I and II courses thru Mind Body Solutions founded by Matthew Sanford in Minnesota.
Katie teaches Functional Anatomy in TriBalance Yoga School’s teacher training program. She also teaches an adaptive yoga class for students with varying levels of mobility through her “All In” class at TriBalance, as well as an adaptive and restorative yoga class at the Arlington Heights Park District.
Katie earned her Master of Health Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis and holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Bowling Green State University. She completed the 200 Hour Integrative Yoga Therapy certification program & Adaptive Yoga levels I, II.
